Train your mind to love training

When you wake up in the morning, you might not feel like jumping out of bed and go for a run or a workout in the gym. Fair enough ;-) But what if you could train your mind to think differently...

Research shows that our thoughts have a significant impact on performance. So how do we tap into that and put it into practice on race day. It is the same I believe, to simply find the motivation to exercise on a regular basis. It is most and foremost a mindset. You need to train your brain (a muscle too!!) to think that working out is fun!
How can we train our brains?
“It might sound simplistic but simply use your imagination. Imagine a healthier, fitter version of yourself ”
If you're looking to implement more positive thoughts and embark in the process of being fit and healthy in the long term, here are some suggestions:
Recognize your initial thoughts ("I don't like training", ''I can't be bothered'') and replace them ("I don't feel like doing it, but last time I did it, I actually felt great afterwards").
Visualise the details of your workout and the post feeling it will leave you with and the rewards you'll get. A nice cool shower, a clear mind, a nice breakfast or tea if you workout in the evening. This "primes the mind and body for success."
Concentrate on your form and staying relaxed.
Know that it isn't easy. A cardio workout especially is a taxing activity, but you will never regret having done it so celebrate each time you finish as an accomplishment.
Focus on your form, your posture, your technique. Or if you are running or swimming, let your mind wander, focus on your breathing and you'll find that solutions to problems might come to you, ideas might flow to your mind.
“Be positive! Make small and manageable changes each time you train and stay focused and committed”
